Ursa Major
"Ursa Major" is our final graduation animation project, a collaborative effort bringing a stop-motion aesthetic into the realm of 3D animation. The film takes place in a space-themed nursery, where a teddy bear must prove to the other toys that he's not just a plush object, but a real bear with courage and heart.
For this project, I modeled and textured the entire environment, drawing heavy inspiration from Baroque furniture design while blending it with futuristic, sci-fi elements to create a unique setting. I used Maya for the modeling and Mari for the texturing. The goal was to create an ornate yet whimsical space that feels simultaneously elegant and otherwordly.
In addition to the environment, I also modeled and textured the robot character, which plays a pivotal role in the story. I was responsible for the lighting throughout the entire film, ensuring that the combination of rich textures and dramatic lighting enhanced the stop-motion aesthetic, giving it a handcrafted feel despite being entirely digital.
This project allowed me to explore the fusion of historical and futuristic design influences, while honing my skills in environmental design, character modeling, texturing, and lighting.
